Good idea: Waking up one morning and realizing there must be a woodpecker living nearby. Smiling because you think this is charming.Bad idea: Waking up EVERY morning and realizing the woodpecker has no sense of early and that it is probably going to make that sound all the time. Getting bitter because getting bitter seems like the only thing to do when you're tired.

haha. i'm all for animals and all, but sleep is more important.... maybe you guys should go on a bird hunt. :)
We have been having the same problem!!! I did research and poisoning is not an option b/c they're protected and the fine is like $500. (of course not that it was an option...)Soooo, the other morning Phil went out to investigate b/c the idiot bird is pecking at our gutter. The METAL gutter. He startled them and off they flew together to a tree where they started, um "mating." Ever since then they haven't been back. So maybe it's a mating call, the woodpecker just wants to find a chick, do it's thing and then will leave! Good luck!!!
we have them too. they're up all the telephone poles around us. i didn't realize that they were LITERALLY up ALL the telephone poles. cursed wookpeckers. and they're not even scared of us. i walked right up to the telephone pole... kicked it... clapped... NOTHING. it just sat there defying me, pecking away. are we allowed to shoot birds in residential areas? :)
At my mom's house all growing up there was a wood pecker right outside my window. It would peck all spring and summer on the electrical box which was made of of steel or something, so he made no progress in the 7-8 years he was there. poor guy. :0)
We don't have a woodpecker, but we do have an alarm clock bird that perches right outside our window, early early in the morning, and then shares it's call for all to hear. Sometimes when we're really tired Ryan will even pray that the alarm clock bird won't come in the morning. Give it a whirl!
I'm going to pretend like I didn't read that whole "protected animal" comment and let you know that Troy has a pellet gun, blow dart gun, paint ball gun and sling shot- all of which are at your disposal any time of the early morning. We don't have woodpeckers at our house. Coincidence? I don't think so....
I am also wondering why there was no post about you almost getting blown up at work... that is way better than getting a snow day! :)
We wish we could have stayed around to chat today and say goodbye. We're going to miss you guys!
we don't have a woodpecker but we can kinda understand the annoyance you feel because we have a pizza place right behind our apartment that sometimes decides to blast music ALL NIGHT LONG . . . but we're not bitter . . .
Let's just say I know a guy...he took care of a "problem" we had once like this. He lives in Colorado and could take care of your situation for a small fee of 1 million dollars!
What is is worth to ya?
we can hear him too. cute at first....then he starts pecking at 5 in the morning. not so cute.
Right before we moved out that bird started doing its thing. It was good during finals, because McKell couldn't sleep in through the 7 am tests. Is it still there?
